5th Avon Walk for me!
Thanks for visiting my Avon Walk page. I've committed to participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer for my 5th straight year. The first year I set out to walk in honor of my stepmother, BJ. Two years ago, I honored 39 people whom breast cancer affected with their names on my tee shirt that I walked in on the 1st day. Last year I baked enough pink ribbon cookies to raise $775 just from cookies alone! I had heard from many more people close to me how breast cancer has affected them and their loved ones. This is why I will continue to walk.....for everyone that this disease has reached.
It's a big commitment, one that will require me to spend the next several months training and fundraising. But breast cancer is a big disease, one that still affects far too many people, and I'm determined to do everything I can to help put an end to it. The money I raise will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures. I'll be just one of thousands of people that will walk up to a marathon and a half over a weekend, raising awareness of the cause and educating even more people.
For the 2011 walk, I was proud to share the weekend experience with Brooke, as she was a part of the Youth Crew. This year she applied again after a year off and was invited to be a part of such a wonderful family for 2013.
Also for 2013, I will be a part of a team. This will include Carissa Costello who walked for her first time last year, Angelique Ricci who will be walking for her 4th time, Christina Spiteri who moved to CA but will travel back East for her 3rd walk and Lisa Keegan, my co-walker in crime, will be sending us some vibes all the way from Idaho while we pound the pavement. We are so excited to be the BC Ninjas. There's a Team page link if you'd like to check it out.
So, I hope that I can count on your support too. Though I'm required to raise at least $1,800 in donations, I plan to raise much more! Brooke is also required to raise $500 as a crew member but will be aiming to reach the $1800 walker goal. Many of you helped Brooke and I to raise over $4,600 for the 2011 walk and for 2012, you helped to donate $4038. I hope you can contribute once again.
You can make a donation to my fundraising campaign right here on the website by clicking on the pink "Donate Now" button. If you prefer to write a check, just contact me and I'll send you the information. You can also donate towards the entire team by clicking on the team page link or directly to Brooke's personal page as well.
As we prepare for this exciting event, I plan to update this page frequently so that all my supporters can follow my progress, my team's progress and Brooke's as well, so please visit often. While you're here, you might want to spend some time on the site to find out more information on why this event is so important, and the organizations and people that will be helped by the money we all raise.
Thank you in advance.
My Personal Web Log
Just around the corner.....
I'm 11 days away from my 5th Avon Walk. Unfortunately it just won't be the same without two of our walker teammates. Lisa moved to Idaho and Angelique will be retrieving her Dad from Italy. I know they will be with us in spirit and cheering us on every step of the way, just wish they were actually there. The 3 C's got this though :)
Thx for all the support from all our donators!
Keep walking. Keep walking.
My other walker half will be moving to Idaho in less than two weeks. I so wish she was a little closer because then at least I could walk there. And I thought 39.3 miles took long :) In the meantime, I have a few more walks around the hood left to take with her. Don't know how I will live without her here.
My Fundraising Begins!
Today, BJ's birthday, I have kickstarted my fundraising efforts for the 2013 NYC AWfBC.
