I'm registered to walk in my fourth Avon Walk in 2013, and I need your support!
I'm a proud member of Team Sara in honor and memory of my friend Sara Kroll. Sadly, Sara lost her courageous battle against breast cancer this past January. When she was diagnosed in 2008, she was given only two years to live, and yet fought harder and stronger than anyone imagined, able to see her daughter Katherine into 1st grade this year. Sara is and will forever be our bumblebee. You know the story of the bumblebee, right? According to scientists, anatomically a bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly - but the bee doesn't know this, and goes right on flying anyway.
I will never forget before last year's Avon Walk, when Sara took me aside and told me how valuable and important she felt the Avon Walk was in the fight against breast cancer. She had heard from some of her doctors that Avon Walk-raised funds were being put towards research that may have helped prevent her particular disease. Her eyes lit up as she told me of the hope the funds raised by the Avon Walk provided toward sparing someone else from the battle she had to fight. This walk funds research grants to some of the top research facilities in the nation, all located in our backyard: Johns Hopkins, Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Institute, George Washington, and George Mason.
For the Avon Walk, I walk a marathon and a half (39.3 miles) over two days with thousands of friends, raising awareness of the cause and educating even more people. In order to walk I am required to raise $1800 in donations. I plan to double that in 2013. Consider a donation that is related to the distance I'll walk, such as $1/mile ($39.30) or $5/mile ($196.50) - or a nice even number like $50 or $100!
Please consider honoring Sara with a donation by clicking on the "DONATE NOW" link on the right, or providing me a check or cash donation in person.
Thank you in advance for your support, both financial and emotional. It means a lot to me, and it means a lot to Sara's family and friends.
