Why I Choose to Walk
When you hear the words "you have breast cancer" time stands still. You can't go backwards and you are not sure you want to go forward. Then, reality sets in, and you know you have to battle the beast.
There have been so many advancements in the treatment of breast cancer: advancements that have only possible through a great deal of time, effort and money.
Having benefited first hand from these efforts, I feel a growing obligation to help those who will be unfortunate enough to walk the same path.
I wasn't sure how but I knew I wanted to do something to help. When my daughter first suggested that we participate in the Avon walk I thought, no way, I can't possibly do that.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized, this is my chance. This October, Kelly and I will walk together in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
We have come so far but we still have a long way to go. I have been blessed with the support of a great family and wonderful friends. I hope I can count on your continued support to further the efforts to stamp out this disease.
I can't do this without your help. Though I am required to raise $1800, I plan to raise much more.
The money I raise will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures. I’ll be just one of thousands of people that will walk up to a marathon and a half over a weekend, raising awareness of the cause and educating even more people.
