Thanks for visiting my Avon Walk page. I’ve committed to participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. It’s a big commitment, one that will require me to spend the next several months training and fundraising. But breast cancer is a big disease, one that still affects far too many people, and I’m determined to do everything I can to help put an end to it. The money I raise will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures. I’ll be just one of thousands of people that will walk up to a marathon and a half over a weekend, raising awareness of the cause and educating even more people.

I can’t do it without your help. Though I’m required to raise at least $1,800 in donation, I plan to raise much more!

I hope that I can count on your support.

I am walking in memory of one of my favorite teachers, Virginia Pooler. As a member of the Whitney High School (Cerritos, California) Class of 1985, she was our class advisor. She was a gifted and loving teacher.

I am also walking in support of Marina Ortega, a dear friend's Mom. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is facing a long road ahead of her. She has a supportive family and I am hoping for the best.

I have been blessed with 2 children, a loving husband and a great family (in-laws too!) I have a lot of dear friends that are like family to me.

I ask you to think of all the women in your lives. Give thanks for your health and help me help others battling this dreadful disease.

You can make a donation to my fundraising campaign right here on the website by clicking on "Click Here to Support Me." If you prefer to write a check, just contact me and I'll send you the information and form.

As I prepare for this exciting event, I plan to update this page frequently so that all my supporters can follow my progress, so please visit often. While you're here, you might want to spend some time on the site to find out more information on why this event is so important, and the organizations and people that will be helped by the money we all raise.

Thank you in advance.

I'm amazed.......
At the strength of people who are fighting breast cancer and the extents to which their families go through it with them. A co-worker's sister is fighting breast cancer that has come back. She was talking about the radiation and chemo. Her sister has been on chemo for more than a year already. Her medications make her sick. She would like to eat like everyone else but she can't because it'll just come back up. Her family feels her pain. They want her to be able to eat and do things with them but she is too sick and tired.
My friend who got me into this (thanks R! :-) is planning her time off from work to be with her mother-in-law for her surgery. I'm thinking positive thoughts and sending well wishes Marina's way. Anyone who is a praying type, please send up a prayer for her.
I'm really looking forward to the walk. I have found that when I am not able to walk due to weather, I get grumpy. Needless to say, my husband wants the weather to clear up when it comes time for my walk in the evening ;-)

225 Days to go!
I have 225 days until the walk. I am walking every night (unless it rains). I am fortunate that I live in Southern California. At least I can still walk most days. Looking forward to attending some training walks in the area. I'll be walking at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena soon. I'll be wearing my Avon Walk t-shirt when I go. Say hi if you see me!

Every day more people....
I am amazed at the number of people affected by breast cancer. Whether it's a family member or a friend. My friend had to go to the dentist and her dental assistant mentioned his mom was going through chemo right now. So I am also walking for Nidida Berrios.

Greetings and introduction
Hi. My name is Clara. I have 2 boys, a loving husband and a great family. Yes, I am including my in-laws! I have been blessed with decent health. However I am overweight. When a friend said she was signed up to do this walk, I thought "Hmmm. I could do that. It would force me to drop this extra weight." Then I started thinking about the REAL reason for doing this. Breast cancer is evil. I lost a teacher to it's clutches. Too many women die of this insidious disease. I figured I could get my rear in gear and do this for them. A couple weeks ago, my friend who got me into this found out her Mother-in-law had been diagnosed with breast cancer. We are taking this as a good omen that we are doing this walk.
I just had my first mammogram this past year. People always talk about how painful they are. I thought to myself, how painful is surgery, radiation and chemo? I can go get my boobs squished. It's a temporary discomfort that may detect something and possibly save my life. I will NEVER skip a mammogram!
