Bentley & Daphne ~My walking buddies
|
I walked all 39.3 miles!!
May 16-17th I walked along with over 2,500 other people to raise over 5.6 million dollars for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
On Saturday I was one of the first 100 people to finish walking a marathon of 26.2 miles in under 8 hours including lunch & water breaks. I had the best surprise when Eddie & all 3 of my dogs come and help motivate me to finish by meeting me at Mile 22, they walked 2 miles with me Saturday. On Sunday I finished 13.1 miles in under 4 hours with lunch & water breaks. It was amazing to walk from Boston to Canton MA, and then back again the next day. I got many blisters, and was very sore, but my discomfort was all worth it, knowing I could do something to help.
As I crept to the finish line just wanting to get my feet wrapped up by the orthopedic tent, I just told myself over and over that "Blisters don't need Chemo!" so keep going!!! After my feet got wrapped up, and I crawled to the car my mom signed me up for the Avon Walk in 2010 on May 15-16.
I reached my goal of $3,600. Everyone was so helpful, so many people I don't even know have helped support my walk. Denise has been my biggest help & promoter from having her family, friends, & even co-workers donate, because they have seen how Breast Cancer has affected Joan & Denise. It is for the amazing women like Joan, My Aunt Jane, My Gram, and all the other women I know who have had this horrible disease that I want to take a stand and help. We all know someone who has had to fight against Breast Cancer.
~Some examples of how your donation will be used to help Boston area women in need *$1,000 a patient can get a MRI to help determine if a mass is malignant or benign, or a biopsy of a breast tissue to see if cancer cells are present *$250 an uninsured breast cancer patient can get chemotherapy treatment or a new patient can get a pre-treatment work up-x-rays and lab work. *$100 a uninsured woman can get a mammogram to help determine if she has breast cancer or a bone scan to see if breast cancer has spread to her bones. *$30 a breast cancer patient can purchase a wig when her treatment causes them to lose their hair. *$25 a breast cancer patient can get transportation to treatment and pay the co-payment for their medication. *$10 a breast cancer patient can get transportation to treatment.
~DONATIONS can be made from my web page, or from a personal check.
Please make the checks payable to “AVON WALK FOR BREAST CANCER” and mail to me at: 183 Jennifer Drive, Chester NH, 03036.
