My Avon Walk 2009

My dear friends and family ,
It is that time of year that I humbly come to you for your help. Against all odds I am planning to walk again in the Avon Walk for breast cancer. People are telling me that I will not be able to raise the $1800 this year because of the falling economy. Well I say because of it I need to raise it more than every. We must still care for our sick even in times like this. We have to stand our ground and show the world that if we stick together and fight in numbers, that we will always succeed. I am asking you for any small donation. Any thing will be better than nothing at this point. My walk is in the second week of May, and as of now I have only $98.00. I have a long way to go in such a short time.

This will be my 6th year in this great event to raise awareness and money for this cause.
I will walked 39.3 miles to help find a way to put an end to breast cancer.
I feel today, I can make a difference by fund raising
and walking for those that could not.
I am determined to raise a minimum of 1,800.00 dollars
to participate in this great event.
But I could not do it without
the help of you,my family,
friends, co-workers and my Avon family.
I'm hoping that I can count on you to be part of my support team again.

Why I walk?

Five years ago I saw this add in O Magazine for a great weekend of fun, massage, camping under the stars and meeting new friends.
I thought "What a great vacation" I only wanted to join to meet new people. walk and lose weight at the same time.

So, I attended the sign up meeting.

Well, I found out at the meeting that I would have to raise $1,800.00 for breast cancer and walk 29 miles over two days.
At that time I was not ready to commit to that kind of money. I have never raised money for anything.
I just wanted a relaxing 2 day vacation - to walk and socialize with the girls in pink.
I didn't know very much about breast cancer any way and this was not what I was looking for.

My dear friend and co-worker, Rose had mentioned to me once that she had had both breasts removed when she was very young, but we never talked about it. She seemed to be fine to me, so I never asked her about her situation.

After hearing about the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, I thought maybe I should talk to her and check this out.

When I did, I was shocked to learn what my friend had been going through all these years. How strong she had to be in order to live her life while supporting others!

That gave me the inspiration to commit myself to teaching others what I know, and to help other woman out there who are going though similar challenges.

For the past five years, I have been committed to walking, fund raising, and sharing my knowledge to get others involved in the fight for a cure.

I have raised $9,000.00 in the last five years, and I am very proud to say I will be walking again in 2009.

Unfortunately, my girl friend Rosanne lost her battle with breast cancer two months after my walk in 2006.

My work is not done!
