In October 2007 I was diagnosed with Stage 0 DCIS. Early detection not only saved my life but it also saved me from having chemo and radiation. I was only 35 years old and was sent by my OB to get a baseline mammogram. He said that his routine starts at the age of 35. Had I waited till I was 40 for my baseline mammogram, I would have had to deal with Chemo and radiation in addition to my surgery.

There are so many reasons for my walk- it has allowed me the opportunity to meet so many people that have in one way or another been touched by Breast Cancer. It is a weekend of therapy for me, it lets me give back. I walk because I will not let cancer bring me down and I will do what I can to help others feel the same. I walk because I don’t want my daughter or your daughter to ever hear the words “you have breast cancer”.

I have already signed up for my 3rd walk in May 2010. The Avon Foundation, awards money raised from these events to help advance medical research into the possible causes, prevention, treatment and cure of breast cancer; medical care for breast cancer patients; support services for patients and their families; educational seminars; and early detection programs. Your donation will benefit the whole picture - cause, cure, care and support.

One of the things I discovered as I was going through my own cancer experience is that I am blessed with an amazing circle of family and friends. I saw this over and over as people came out of the woodwork to offer love and support. This event is one way that I can try to give some of that support back to those who need it now.
