Heading to Chicago! (and why I'm doing this again)

Thanks for visiting my Avon Walk page. I’ve committed to participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago on June 5-6!

I walked in 2008 in a different Breast Cancer walk in Seattle and I walked for several different people at the time. After it was over, I swore "never again"! It was grueling to say the least, but it was a definite growth experience. I'm not the most in shape person, nor nearly as athletic as I used to be before having kids, but over 3 days, I finished 56 miles of a 60 mile walk. I'm pretty damn proud of that!

Since that walk, one of the women I walked for has lost her hard fought battle, leaving behind a young daughter and shattered husband. Many more people I know have been diagnosed since then and I feel compelled to break out the tennis shoes and hit the pavement again.

Walking so far in a short amount of time is a big commitment, one that will require me to spend the next 16 weeks training and fundraising. But breast cancer is a big disease, one that still affects far too many people, and I’m determined to do everything I can to help put an end to it.

The money I raise will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures.

I can’t do it without your help. Though I’m required to raise at least $1,800 in donation, I plan to raise much more!
