About the Walk
Thanks for visiting my Avon Walk page. I’ve committed to participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago, June 6-7. It’s a big commitment, one that will require me to spend the next several months training and fundraising. But breast cancer is a big disease, one that still affects far too many people, and I’m determined to do everything I can to help put an end to it. The money I raise will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures. I’ll be just one of thousands of people that will walk up to a marathon and a half over a weekend, raising awareness of the cause and educating even more people.
I can’t do it without your help. Though I’m required to raise at least $1,800 in donation, I plan to raise much more!
I hope that I can count on your support.
How You Can Help
You can make a donation to my fundraising campaign right here on the website by clicking on the pink "Donate Now" button. If you prefer to write a check, just contact me and I'll send you the information and form.
As I prepare for this exciting event, I plan to update this page frequently so that all my supporters can follow my progress, so please visit often. While you're here, you might want to spend some time on the site to find out more information on why this event is so important, and the organizations and people that will be helped by the money we all raise.
Thank you in advance.

Only 65 days to go!
Boy, this walk is really sneaking up on me! I haven't gotten in as much training as I would like, mostly due to the weather. I think I'm going to have to just suck it up and do it whenever the temperature is above 45. Unfortunately, the treadmill in our building is now out of order, so I no longer have that as an option on foul weather days.
This weekend I plan to start my hair auction, which has long been my plan for my biggest fundraiser. I will have Doug take pictures and measurements that I can post on http://TheHairTrader.com to get my auction started. I am hoping for a quick, easy and high sale!!! Wish me luck! Other than that, I'm still trying to think of some ideas for fundraising. I made salted toffee for Christmas gifts that was very popular... I think that might be a great fundraiser as well!
Thanks again for your continued support!

First Week of Training
I printed out a 16-week training schedule and started last Monday (2/9), believing that was the start of the 16 weeks. A few days later I had a moment of panic when I counted it out on a calendar and thought I was a week behind, but realized that I had actually started a week early... so I got to sort of ease into my training last week and started in earnest this week.
Luckily, we have a treadmill in our building, so I don't have to deal with trying to walk outside in the lovely Chicago February weather. Unfortunately, our treadmill is in what is possibly the most dull and depressing workout room ever.
My friend and neighbor, Michelle (who is also going to do the walk with me, yay!), got me a 21-day pass at her gym. We worked out together last night, which was so much better than walking in the little white box. Hopefully once the 21 days is up our weather will be decent enough for me to walk outside.
