Pink Planting To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the Avon Foundation for Women organized special pink plantings in the New York City buildings that house Avon's global and North American headquarters, as well as the Avon office in Rye, NY.
Spotlighting these first-ever pink plantings in the midtown Manhattan building are Andrea Jung, Avon Chairman & CEO and Geralyn Breig, President, Avon North America.
The pink mums, cyclamen, and kalanchoes, were planted on October 1 and will remain throughout the month to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Special signs created by the Avon Foundation for Women communicate the message that early detection can help save lives and direct people to avonfoundation.org for more information.
Helping Jung get into the spirit are pink gardening tools from Avon Walk for Breast Cancer sponsor Tomboy Tools. A portion of all sales of their pink gardening and home repair tools is donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.
Reese Witherspoon in San Francisco for 5th Anniversary of Avon Breast Center Reese Witherspoon, Avon Foundation for Women Honorary Chairman, traveled to San Francisco in May to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Avon Foundation for Women Comprehensive Breast Center at the San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) and to launch a special training walk for the Avon Walk San Francisco participants. This Avon Breast Center was built with money raised through the sale of Avon Pink ribbon fundraising products, and Avon Walk for Breast Cancer events.
While in San Francisco, Reese took the important step of signing up for the Love/Avon Army of Women and discussed with founder Dr. Susan Love the importance of women getting involved in research to prevent breast cancer.
During the festivities, Reese met with breast cancer survivors who received care at the Avon Breast Center, as well as researchers, doctors, Avon Sales Representatives and Sales Managers. Reese presented a special gift to the breast cancer survivors: advance samples of the new Avon Breast Cancer Crusade tote bag designed by Marimekko™ - a favorite bag of Reese herself.
The tote bags launched in October and are available through Avon Sales Representatives and at avon.com and are only $10.00 with $6.24 donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.
Dempsey Racing Champions' Circle Actor Patrick Dempsey and Dempsey Racing have joined the Avon Foundation for Women to bring new excitement to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer with the creation of the Dempsey Racing Champions' Circle. This new Avon Walk fundraising competition will award the top fundraiser from each of the nine 2009 Avon Walks with a trip to meet Patrick and the Dempsey Racing team at the 2010 Rolex 24 Grand Am Race at Daytona, a keepsake photo, the opportunity to be "pit crew for a day" and much more.
Patrick and the Dempsey Racing team made a special visit to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer LA to congratulate walkers and raffle off the autographed racing suit (pictured above) he wore in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2009. Suze Orman, personal finance expert and Special Ambassador for the Avon Foundation for Women, took part in the festivities of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in both San Francisco and New York. During the celebratory Closing Ceremony on Sunday, July 12, in San Francisco and October 11, in New York, Suze announced new grants to local organizations that ensured funds raised immediately benefit the San Francisco Bay and New York areas.
Suze surprised the Avon Foundation for Women and the event participants by also presenting a personal donation of $25,000 at each of the two Avon Walks. Suze said "I am so proud to support the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and to have the privilege of presenting grants to these extraordinary organizations.
The outpouring of support and generosity by donors to the Avon Walk this year, especially in light of the economic situation we are all facing, has allowed the Avon Foundation for Women to once again make substantial and much-needed new grants that will benefit those facing breast cancer in San Francisco, New York and nationwide."
Avon's fundraising products have raised more than $108 million since 1992 for Avon's causes, including the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and Speak Out Against Domestic Violence. Our fundraising products help to serve as a very visible reminder of these two important issues facing women around the world. The newest products in the collection include the Women's Empowerment Necklace, the Marimekko Tote ™, and the Breast Cancer Crusade Soap.
